The World Mathematics Championship Bangkok

St. Paul Mathletes took their skills to Bangkok for their first-ever international conference. The students attended the 2025 World Mathematics Championships Junior Regionals, competing among top young minds from around South East Asia. They worked well together and individually to bring home an impressive collection of medals and Golden Tickets to championships in Melbourne, Australia.

2025 World Mathematics Championships

Our talented Mathletes represented St. Paul American School Hanoi with pride at The World Mathematics Championships (WMC) held in Bangkok at the end of October. Hosted at DBS Denla British School, the event gathered some of the brightest young minds from around South East Asia for a series of thrilling math challenges and international camaraderie.

A Multi-Stage Global Competition

The WMC consisted of four individual rounds and three team rounds, testing every aspect of mathematical skill — from problem-solving to teamwork.

Individual Rounds (Online)

  • Confidence – measured precision and certainty in solutions.
  • Codebreaker – tested logical reasoning and pattern recognition.
  • Mathematician – challenged participants with complex problem sets.
  • Duel (In-Person) – a fast-paced, one-on-one strategy game similar to the format used in the Ho Chi Minh City round.

Team Rounds (Live in Bangkok)

  • Lightning – quick, sequential problem solving.
  • Pursuit – teamwork, speed, and accuracy in a relay-style challenge.
  • Shuttle – a communication-driven problem sequence where each teammate built upon the others’ answers.

Unlike the Ho Chi Minh City competition in October, this event did not include Alliance rounds with mixed-school teams — making it a true showcase of each school’s collective strength.

Exploring Bangkok: Culture, Food, and Fun

Outside of competition hours, our students experienced the beauty and energy of Bangkok.
They visited Wat Pho to marvel at the Reclining Buddha and stunning Thai architecture, took a ferry ride along the Chao Phraya River to ICONSIAM Mall, and enjoyed panoramic skyline views from the terrace. Evenings were spent exploring the Chinatown night market and JODDFAIRS night market, immersing in local culture, flavors, and crafts.

Medalists and Golden Ticket Recipients

This year, multiple students earned medals across several categories. Several also earned a Golden Ticket, an invitation to the WMC Finals in Melbourne, Australia this December.

Congratulations once again to our Bangkok team for their exceptional performance and for representing St. Paul in Southeast Asia.
