Reflecting on his journey, Vinh shared, “My dream to attend Yale began back in Grade 10 when I had the opportunity to attend Yale Young Global Scholars. I was captivated by the campus, the atmosphere, and especially Yale’s Ethics, Politics, and Economics (EPE) major. It felt like the perfect fit for me.”
Vinh described the night before his acceptance letter arrived as one filled with anticipation. “I couldn’t sleep, staying up until 5 AM. When the letter came, I jumped excitedly, but most of all, I felt relieved. All the work, especially the essays, was finally recognized.”
The biggest challenge, according to Vinh, was essay writing. “It was hard to tell if my essay was good enough since there’s no ‘correct’ way to write it. My personal statement was quite humorous, focusing on the Vietnamese ‘Táo Quân’ show, which satirizes world news. It took me a long time to finish, but I’m proud of how it turned out.”
He also credits the invaluable support from his teachers and counselors. “𝐌𝐫. 𝐆𝐮𝐬, our school counselor, was extremely helpful in guiding me through the application process and helping me shape my profile. 𝐌𝐫. 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧, my social studies teacher, really brought out my passion for economics, which was key to the process.”
Vinh also praised St. Paul’s strong AP curriculum, saying, “The AP courses here definitely helped me improve my grades and scores, which were important for my application.”
As for the future, Vinh remains focused on the opportunities ahead. “I don’t see this as the end but as the beginning. Yale is an incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to make the most of the resources there to achieve even more of my goals.”
