STEAMD

What is STEAMD?
STEAMD is designed to inspire curiosity and foster hands-on learning through project-based activities. It allows students to explore their interests in a collaborative environment.

Design Focus:
A core aspect of STEAMD is the Stanford Design Process, which emphasizes empathy. Students learn to consider the feelings and needs of others when solving problems, creating functional solutions that positively impact their community.

Program Highlights:
During the school day, a teacher and an assistant teacher collaborate to guide students through their various projects and activities. Additionally, our Eagle News room, run by fifth graders, allows students to produce and present news segments, providing hands-on experience with technology and media.

STEAMD Elementary
  • Promotes hands-on learning, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Encourages collaboration and teamwork, developing effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Supports integrating multiple disciplines and promoting a holistic understanding of concepts.
  • Fosters innovation and entrepreneurship by providing tools and resources for students to transform ideas into reality.
  • Tech Tools: Students learn to use both non-digital hand tools and digital tools like robots, applications, iPads, and desktops.
  • Creative Areas: Develop essential skills in coding, typing, tinkering, and brainstorming.
  • Continual Skill Development: As students progress from grades 1 through 5, they build on their skills each year, adding new abilities along the way.
  • Outdoor Projects: Some projects include outdoor experiences, like creating and maintaining a garden.

Science – NGSS

Next Generation Science Standards

These K–12 science standards help students learn through inquiry, hands-on investigations, and real-world problem solving. Students explore core scientific concepts while practicing the skills scientists use every day

Technology – ISTE

International Society for Technology in Education Standards

ISTE Standards teach students to use technology responsibly and creatively. Students learn digital citizenship, computational thinking, and how to use technology as a tool for learning and collaboration.

Design – SDP

Schoolwide/Standard Design Process

Design is the most important component of our program. It is the “glue” that holds everything together and gives it meaning and purpose. The Design Process: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test gets students to learn how to turn ideas into meaningful solutions.

Engineering – ETS

Engineering and Technology Standards

Our engineering lessons introduce students to the design and problem-solving practices used by engineers. Students learn how to identify problems, create solutions, test ideas, and improve their designs.

Art – NAS

National Arts Standards

Art is woven into the STEAMD experience through the National Arts Standards. Students learn to express ideas visually, think creatively, and develop skills in design, creativity, and visual communication.

Mathematics – CCSSM

Common Core State Standards for Mathematics

These standards ensure students build strong number sense, reasoning, and mathematical thinking. Students apply math concepts to everyday situations, projects, and STEM challenges.
