At St. Paul, the students have a wide variety of opportunities to develop their skills and their English language and specifically they have opportunities to get challenged in their thinking. And as they get into their middle school years, they have so many opportunities to kind of explore themselves and to take chances and take risks. And we see them flourish in that opportunity because we have small class sizes. We have opportunities to get to know and build relationships with all of our students. We can help support them in ways and we can work together as a staff with students to see them successful and grow.
I think what makes the middle school experience here special is how much all the teachers care about the students and how much we care about the program itself. Each year collectively we try to improve on the program and the curriculum, the options for students and the extracurriculars for students as well and really try to give them the experience that they want and that they need. Students grow a lot in terms of their confidence and their executive function skills, in terms of time management, their ability to initiate tasks and to take ownership of their task. And I think that’s that’s our big goal in middle school.
Teachers will coach them through the whole process and help them grow to be more confident and independent towards the end. We’re privileged enough to have the spell program here and I work along with my spell teacher. Her and I work together to differentiate for students to adapt lessons for students who are at a lower tier in terms of proficiency and try to make these lessons more accessible for them and just try to get them more comfortable with English.
Adjusting to secondary school expectations and daily life can be challenging for young people. In our Advisory classes, we inform students of news around campus and provide life-skill classes. Clubs and Sports provide students with opportunities to develop social skills, teamwork, and make long-lasting friendships. Beyond academics, we provide a well-rounded education for young learners.

Our teachers care deeply about our students. We implemented curriculum which is specifically designed to help our students with social emotional learning, stress management, conflict resolution, time management, etc.
In our middle school, we prepare our students for success in high school by gradually elevating the rigor from year to year. And for these kids to be all in the same class together and sharing their culture and their history, I think that’s one of the most unique and powerful things about international school education.
