The Moon Festival came alive at St. Paul American School Hanoi as our Eagle community gathered for a day filled with culture, creativity, and connection.
From Elementary to High School, students had the chance to discover the traditions and stories behind one of Asia’s most celebrated festivals. The campus was filled with the colors of traditional costumes, student artwork, the lively rhythms of Vietnamese Lion Dances, and the energy of Bamboo Dancing.
One of the highlights of the celebration was our moon cake-making activities. Elementary students rolled up their sleeves and made their own moon cakes, turning a traditional treat into a fun hands-on learning experience. Meanwhile, Middle and High School students in Vietnamese classes worked alongside a professional chef to learn how to make both baked and snow-skin moon cakes. Our Chinese classes also explored the traditions and cultural meaning behind Chinese moon cakes with their teachers. For our students, the experience went beyond making and tasting moon cakes. It was an opportunity to learn about traditions through doing, sharing, and asking questions.
Our parents also played an important part in making the celebration special. From preparing food for students to leading cooking workshops, their enthusiasm brought another layer of warmth to the event and gave students an opportunity to experience cultural traditions firsthand.
The celebration also reflected the diversity of our St. Paul community, with students, parents, and teachers proudly wearing traditional clothing from different cultures around the world. It was a wonderful reminder that while traditions may differ, celebrations have a way of bringing people together.
At St. Paul, we believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Experiences like the Moon Festival allow students to connect with culture in meaningful ways, appreciate different traditions, and celebrate the diverse community they are part of.
