Ms. Sarah is from the U.S. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education in Arizona. Sarah taught in the US, Korea, and China before moving to Vietnam in 2020 and has made Hanoi her home. She loves getting to know her students and helping them grow as learners in a safe and happy environment. She is very excited to be part of the St. Paul community as a third-grade teacher. When not teaching, Ms. Sarah loves reading, scuba diving, movies, music, and traveling.
The thing I love most about teaching at St. Paul is the community that’s built here and the way that everyone cares for each other and all the children…
…One of the things that makes it really easy to support students that need extra help in the class is the small class sizes and the fact that we have co-teachers to help with English learners. We’re able to really individualize the instruction, pull students out for one-on-one support if they need it, or work together in small groups inside the classroom.
Every week we incorporate Vietnamese culture and language into our class. My assistant teacher is Vietnamese and they have learned so much of the language. They know how to count. They know a lot of colors. They can do greetings and have small conversations in Vietnamese.
I try to foster a sense of curiosity and love for learning with my students by demonstrating it myself. I always show them that I am reading a new book all the time and show them my excitement for it as well.
Some of the things that we do here in elementary school to prepare our students to make that transition into middle school is developing the social emotional program. They are working on problem solving skills, building relationships, empathy, kindness. One thing parents should know about sending their child to St. Paul is that they will be cared for and loved and well educated at the same time.
