In Ms. McGrain’s Media Class, Grade 3 Students combined a getting-to-know-you activity with a STEM Challenge. Students got to know each other and all about Media Class through shared discussions on different types of technologies, books, and personal traits, which they recorded on paper strips. They were then given the task of using those paper strips to create a free-standing structure. An Engineering Challenge AND Community Building!
The goal of Media Class is to equip students to be effective and ethical creators and consumers of media and information, able to develop their curiosity by being critical thinkers, skillful researchers, and enthusiastic readers. Information literacy and technology intersect with every subject area and need to be directly instructed at all elementary grade levels.
